Paul Bartel

Paul Bartel ( born August 6, 1938 in New York City, New York, † 13 May 2000 ) was an American film director, screenwriter and actor. He is considered a pioneer of trash film.

Life

Bartel studied at the University of California, Los Angeles and at the Centro di Cinematografica Sperimental in Rome. His graduation film, the short film Progetti was shown in 1962 at the Festival of Venice. Bartels 's first feature film as a director was 1972 Horror terminus. By 1993, followed by eight other feature films for which he partly wrote the screenplays. Also for TV series he worked as a director and screenwriter.

Bartel also acted in numerous films as an actor, for example, in Brian De Palma's Hi, Mom! Michael Almereyda's Hamlet and adaptation. Overall, he has been involved in more than 90 productions as an actor.

Bartel was a jury member at the Berlinale in 1979.
