Paul Barth (Judoka)

Paul Barth ( born September 20, 1945 in Munich) is a German former judoka, who in 1972 won an Olympic bronze medal.

Paul Barth won at the 1968 European Championship in Lausanne his first bronze medal at his first major international appearance. 1970 and 1971 he was awarded the TSV Munich Grosshadern German team champion. At the Olympic Games in 1972, born in Lindau Gerd Egger and Barth were the two representatives in Großhaderner consisting of five judokas German squad. With four wins Barth reached the battle for the finals in the light heavyweight division to 93 kg, where he lost to the later Olympic champion Shota Tschotschischwili from the Soviet Union, who had come through the repechage semi-finals. After four wins and one defeat Paul Barth was awarded the bronze medal. 1973 Barth then won his only singles title. His successor at TSV Grosshadern and in the national team was Günther Neureuther.
