Paul Baumgartner

Paul Baumgartner ( born July 21, 1903 in Altstaetten, † October 19, 1976 in Locarno ) was a Swiss pianist.

After leaving school at the cantonal school in St. Gallen, he studied with Walter Braunfels piano and composition in Munich and at Eduard Erdmann in Cologne and was then himself at the Academy of Music Cologne. After his escape from the Nazis in 1935 in his home, he taught from 1937 at the conservatory in Basel.

Attached great importance to Paul Baumgartner faithful reproduction of compositions, remembering forgotten or misunderstood, but also neglected not the game of the latest Swiss compositions.

In 1962 he received the Culture Prize of the city of St. Gallen.
