Paul Bedjan

Paul Bedjan ( born November 27, 1838 in Khosrova / Salama (Iran), † June 9, 1920 in Köln- Nippes) was a Roman Catholic priest and Orientalist.

Life

The son of a Chaldean Catholic family was a student in 1846 by the French Vincentians ( Vinzentinern ) founded in Khosrova Minor Seminary. Eighteen- year-old he entered the novitiate in Paris this West Church Catholic Order of October 27, 1856. On May 25, 1861 he was ordained in Paris Latin Rite priest and returned a few months later he returned to Persia. With him he brought a harmonium and a small printing press. From 1861 to 1880 he worked as a pastor, preacher and organist in Khosrova and Urmia, then he returned to France to procure the printing of liturgical and theological works in Syriac language and writing. From 1885 to 1900 he worked in Ans near Liège (Belgium ). Then he was appointed chaplain to the Daughters of Charity at St. Vincent Hospital in Cologne -Nippes, a task which he held in addition to his editorial work until his death.

Repeated efforts to make him the Chaldean Catholic Bishop of Salama (based in Khosrova ), he fended off.
