Paul Behrens

Paul Behrens ( * 1893, † 1984) was a German clockmaker in Lübeck.

Biography

Behrens was the son of Paul Behrens Elder. , Who was also a watchmaker in Lübeck. The younger Behrens took over in 1936 the management of the " watchmaker Behrens ", which had grown to the destruction in 1942 on the corner Mengstraße / Schüsselbuden below the towers of St. Mary's Church to the Chapel of Mary at Stegel, and led the family until the year 1975.

Behrens became known to a wider public through its reconstruction of the carillon mechanism in the Marienkirche in Lübeck, and by its production of the new astronomical clock in this church (the original bells and the old astronomical clock were in WWII during an air raid on Palm Sunday, 1942 have been destroyed ). He also questioned the financing of these projects safely and waited until the clock of his life. Behrens gave the Astronomical clock of the church in 1967.

In the same year, the city of Lübeck Paul Behrens presented the Plaque of Honour of the Senate.
