Paul Brady

Paul Joseph Brady ( born May 19, 1947 in Strabane ) is an Irish folk musician and singer-songwriter.

Life

Paul Brady was born in Strabane, Northern Ireland. He attended St. Columb 's College in Londonderry and then the University College in Dublin. He learned piano and guitar. In 1963 he began to work as a bar musician in Donegal. With the bands The Inmates, The Kult, Rootzgroup and Rockhouse he played rhythm-and - blues and soul tracks. In 1967 he replaced Michael Johnston in Johnston. They moved to London in 1969 and 1972 to New York in order to reach a wider audience. 1974 Brady returned back to Ireland and was a member of the folk band Planxty, where he replaced Christy Moore. The band musicians included Andy Irvine and Dónal Lunny. 1976 Planxty disbanded. Brady played from then in a duo with Andy Irvine. Their album Andy Irvine and Paul Brady was very successful and received good reviews. During this time he played as a sideman on other albums guitar.

In 1978, Brady's first solo album, Welcome Here Child Stranger. It was voted Melody Maker Folk Album of the Year. However, Brady decided to work again as rock and pop musicians, and released albums such as Hard Station, True for You, Back to the Centre and Primitive Dance. His album Trick or Treat 1991 by the producer of Steely Dan, Gary Katz, produced. Numerous songs have been covered by Brady, including Santana, Dave Edmunds and Bonnie Raitt. Tina Turner Paradise is Here also from Brady. In 2001, Brady his own record label PeeBee Music.
