Paul Butterfield

Paul Butterfield ( born December 17, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois; † 4 May 1987 in Hollywood ) was an American blues musician. He is considered one of the best and most influential white harmonica player.

Work

Butterfield Blues Harp played and collaborated with the black blues greats Muddy Waters, Howlin 'Wolf, Little Walter and James Cotton.

By 1965 he had founded Butterfield Blues Band, who was, inter alia, Mike Bloomfield, he became the leading artist of the white Chicago blues. With the use of electric instruments the band made ​​in the same year at the Newport Folk Festival for a scandal and shocked the followers of traditional folk. Parts of the Butterfield Blues Band played as a backing band when Bob Dylan's appearance at the Newport Folk Festival, Dylan because Bloomfield had also supported for the recording of " Like a Rolling Stone".

The Butterfield Blues Band, among others, took in 1967 at the Monterey Pop Festival and 1969 at the Woodstock Festival in part.

In 1986, he moved to Los Angeles. Three weeks after his last appearance with BB King, Albert King and Eric Clapton in Los Angeles, died of alcohol-and drug-addicted musician on 4 May 1987.

2006 Paul Butterfield was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.
