Paul Driessen (animator)

Paul Driessen ( born March 30, 1940 in Nijmegen, Netherlands) is a Dutch animator.

Life

Driessen visited until 1964 the School of Art in Utrecht, where he studied graphic design and illustration. In 1964 he joined the animation studio Cinecartooncentre in Hilversum, where he animated commercials for, among others, the Dutch television. George Dunning became aware of him and hired him as one of the animators for the Beatles' animated film Yellow Submarine. The film came in 1968 in the cinemas. Two years later Driessen finished his first short animated film The Story of Little John Baile. He went to Canada in 1970 and settled in Montreal. After a collaboration with Gerald Potterton at length film Tiki Tiki Driessen was a member of the 1972 National Film Board of Canada. From the mid- 1970s commuted Driessen between Canada and the Netherlands and published in both countries short animated films.

From 1985 to 2005 Driessen taught animation at the Kassel Art Academy. Among his pupils were included Daniel Stieglitz and Nils Loof and the subsequent Oscar winner Christoph Lauenstein, Wolfgang Lauenstein (balance) and Thomas Stell Mach ( Quest ). Their success has led to a continued employment Driessens in Kassel, which should be temporarily laid off due to its liberal teaching methods.

Driessen, who also published a number of comic books, lives in Montreal and France. Among his greatest successes, the 1998's Dutch production counts 3 Misses, which was nominated for an Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film ". Like all his films dispensed 3 Misses on dialogues. Critics considered Driessen as " the great master of animation " and as " one of the recognized masters of animation and one of the most prolific filmmakers ."
