Paul Engelmann

Paul Engelmann ( born June 14, 1891 in Olomouc, † February 5, 1965 in Tel Aviv ) was a primarily active in Vienna architect and furniture designer.

Life

Engelmann graduated from the secondary school in Olomouc, studied for two years at the Technical University in Vienna, was 1912-1914 student and later an employee of Adolf Loos. In the 1920s, Engelmann lived mainly in Olomouc. With his brother Peter Engelmann, a draftsman, he was concerned with theoretical questions of cartoon ( his sister Anne Engelmann was a book illustrator ). Engelmann had intensive contact with Ludwig Wittgenstein, for his sister Margaret Stonborough -Wittgenstein 1926-1928 he built the house, Wittgenstein, and Karl Kraus. The Torch 1911 published his poem on the Loos House on Michaelerplatz. In 1934 he emigrated to Tel Aviv, where he designed furniture and homes rebuilt, such as the branch of Max. Engelmann also worked as editor of an anthology of German poetry and as a magazine editor.

In 2003 ( 22nd District ) of the Paul Engelmann road was named after him in Vienna Danube city.
