Paul Gehlhaar

Gehlhaar Paul ( born August 27, 1905 in Königsberg, † July 2, 1968 in Berlin- Zehlendorf ) was a German football player.

The goalkeeper started his career at VfB Königsberg. With this club he was at least 1923 to the semi-finals of the German championship, where feasible unhappy lost against Hamburger SV, that HSV, which should be German champions then. Here, the 3-2 winning goal only came into being by own goal in the 89th minute of the semifinal game.

1927, came on the second round not go to the German championship. Königsberg, continuous outsiders for those games, but could annoy the blue-white again in this game against Hertha BSC. Only 1:2 lost one, and that the defeat turned out so scarce was mainly with the " Cerberus " Konigsberg, Paul Gehlhaar.

In the meantime, however, he was known as a guarantee of good performance and so it was not surprising that he changed soon. He hired in 1928 at Hertha BSC. With this club he was finally able to then retract also Title. After 1928 but still the Hamburger SV was defeated in the final 5-2 and 1929 3-2 lost against SpVgg Fürth, it worked finally in 1930 with 5:4 against Holstein Kiel. It was not until just before the end succeeded in a dramatic game of the winning goal for Berlin.

1931 could defend the title successfully, as TSV 1860 München was closely defeated in the final 3-2.

The goalkeeper of modern times, say one which also starred, also came two appearances for the national team, but went bad for him. In 1928 they lost against Sweden 0:2 and 1931 there was a delicate 0:6 defeat against Austria. Thus, the career was in the national team also already over. He was generally regarded as daring acrobatic skills. He fearlessly threw himself into the fray, hoping to sign the ball.

In 1935, he left Hertha BSC and joined the SV Lorenz Berlin. With this club he was at least 1938 still in the Gauligenaufstiegsrunde.

The qualified businessman trained after the second world war a few clubs, including Minerva 93 and Hertha BSC in the city league, and then led a filling station in Berlin -Zehlendorf.
