Paul Ginsparg

Paul Ginsparg ( born 1956 ) is an American physicist and professor at Cornell University. About his art, he is best known for the development of the preprint archive ArXiv.org.

In 1977, he earned his bachelor's degree in physics from Harvard University and completed his PhD in theoretical particle physics in 1981 at Cornell University. By 1984 he was at the Harvard Society of Fellows and then to 1990, Assistant and Associate Professor in the Department of Physics from Harvard. He then worked as a research assistant in the theory department of the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Since 2001 he is professor of physics and computer science at Cornell University.

He works in the field of quantum field theory, string theory, conformal field theory and quantum gravity. He is the winner of the PAM Award ( physics mathematics astronomy ) of the Special Libraries Association (1998), since 2000 a Fellow of the American Physical Society. In 2002 he received a MacArthur Fellowship.
