Paul Gonzales

Paul Garza Gonzales ( born April 18, 1964 in Los Angeles ) is a retired American boxer.

Amateur

Gonzalez was 1983 U.S. champion and won at the Pan American Games silver in the light flyweight. In 1984 he was in his hometown of several prizes, including a win over Kim Kwang -sun not only Olympic champion but was also associated with the Val Barker trophy as the best technical boxer of the tournament.

Professional

Gonzales 1985 pro. For greater success in the professional camp he lacked, however clout. His only notable victory debut in 1986 against the unbeaten Orlando Canizalez, Canizalez hit him while on the ground, but lost on points.

1988 Gonzales lost his first title fight against little respected Ray Medel on points. After Canizalez had won the IBF bantamweight title, he could challenge him again in a rematch, lost the fight by abortion in the second round due to lacerations.

After two defeats against average opponents, he finished his career in 1991.
