Paul Grimault

Paul Grimault ( born March 23, 1905 in Neuilly -sur -Seine, † March 29, 1994 in Mesnil -Saint -Denis ) was one of the most important French character animators and directors.

He became known in 1937 for his children's and fantasy films, which were initially, and later produced as short films as cartoons.

His short film The Little Soldier (1947 ) based on a story by Hans Christian Andersen, to the Jacques Prévert wrote the script, got the prize for the best animated film at the Venice Film Festival in 1948, together with Melody Time Walt Disney.

His best known and most personal work is The King and the bird. The French master of the trick film worked since 1947 on Andersen's The Shepherdess and the Chimney Sweep. After his work was included in a 1953, according Grimault, defaced version, he acquired the rights to the 1966 animated film and designed as a 75 -year-old his personal version. The new version, which dialogues and song lyrics by Jacques Prévert includes, won several international awards.

1979 Paul Grimault won the Louis- Delluc Award for The King and the bird. In 1989 he was awarded the honorary prize of the French César Film Awards awarded.
