Paul-Heinz Wellmann

Paul -Heinz Wellmann ( born March 31, 1952 in Haiger ) is a former German track and field athlete and Olympic bronze medalist over 1,500 meters.

The first major international event in which Wellmann participated, were the European Championships 1971 in Helsinki. Wellmann reached the final run and finished in seventh place.

Also reached at the 1972 Olympics in Munich Wellmann the final run. Again he won the 1500-meter seventh. At these games, his future wife Ellen Wellmann (born Tittel ) participated, reaching well over 1500 meters in seventh place in the finals.

After the European Championships in 1971 and the Olympic Games in Munich Wellmann also finished at the European Championships 1974 in Rome back to seventh place over 1500 meters.

The greatest success then succeeded in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. A native of Hesse won the bronze medal on the 1,500 meters. The final run he mastered in 3:39,3 min.

Paul -Heinz Wellmann launched until 1974 for the TV Haiger, where he subsequently became an honorary member. Then he went for the TuS 04 Leverkusen at the start. His coach was Gerd Osenberg.
