Paul-Henri Rebut

Paul -Henri Rebut ( b. 1936 ) is a French physicist plasma, which operates in fusion research.

Rebut studied at the École polytechnique in 1955 and 1957 at the École supérieure des national poudres. In 1966 he received his doctorate ( Doctorat d' Etat). His interest in fusion research began in 1958 at the Commissariat à l' énergie Atomique et aux énergies alternative (CEA ). 1970 to 1973 he was instrumental in the French tokamak of Fontenay -aux -Roses (TFR ). In 1973 he became head of the design team of the Joint European Torus ( JET) in Culham and 1979 he was deputy director of JET responsible for construction, operation and development. 1985 to 1992 he was Director of JET at Culham as successor to Hans -Otto Wüster. Under his leadership, JET 1991 provided for the first time for a short time to a convincing demonstration of the generation of power plant fusion power (1.8 MW for 2 seconds) in a tokamak.

1992 to 1994 he was head of the design team for ITER in San Diego. In 1998 he returned to France and was until 2004 Advisor to the High Commissioner for Atomic Energy and consulted 2000-2004 the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC ), which was founded in 1992 and former Russian nuclear weapons scientists to integrate into civilian research. He is also the end of the 2000s a regular advisor to the ITER.

In 1978, Paul -Henri Rebut Knight of the Ordre national du Mérite and 1984 Knight of the Legion of Honour. He is a member of the Academy of Sciences and received the 2006 Hannes Alfvén - price.
