Paul Iby

Paul Iby, Hungarian: Pál Iby, (born 23 January 1935 in Raiding, Austria ) is a retired bishop of Eisenstadt.

Life

Paul Iby is born as the second son of a farmer of Hungarian origin in the Burgenland community raiding. In 1954 he graduated from the Bundesrealgymnasium and Bundesgymnasium Matter castle. He has received after completing his theological and philosophical studies on 29 June 1959, the sacrament of Holy Orders. Further studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University, he graduated in 1967 with the Doctorate of Canon Law from. From 1967 to 1974 he worked as a personal secretary to the bishop of Eisenstadt. From 1969 to 1977 he headed the Caritas from 1973 to 1985, the Education Office of the Diocese of Eisenstadt. From 1974 to 1992 he was head of the Episcopal Secretariat, 1977-1984 diocesan chancellor. In the years 1984-1992 he oversaw as Vicar General in succession by Anton Stirling directing the administration of the Diocese of Eisenstadt. On December 28, 1992, Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Eisenstadt. On January 24, 1993 Paul Iby received by his predecessor, Bishop Stephan László, episcopal ordination.

After the acceptance of his resignation request by the Pope in July 2010, he heads to the assumption of office by his successor the diocese as Apostolic Administrator.

Paul Iby is a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.

Shortly before his resignation to Iby called for a repeal of compulsory celibacy, which would facilitate his view, the pastoral care. Also, a vocation of women in the priesthood, he did not rule out in principle, even if they currently " no issue".
