Paul II Cheikho

Paul Cheikho ( born November 19, 1906 in Alqosh, Iraq, † 13 April 1989) was from 1958 to 1989 under the name Paul II Cheikho Patriarch of Babylon of the Chaldeans.

Life

Paul Cheikho was ordained in Mosul on February 16, 1930 priests. At the age of 40 he was appointed on 22 February 1947 and consecrated bishop of Acre on May 4, 1947 Archbishop Hormisdas Etienne Djibri of Kirkuk to the Bishop of Acre. From June 28 1957 to December 1, 1958 he held the office of Bishop of Aleppo. He was appointed on December 13, 1958 Archbishop of Baghdad and the Patriarch of Babylon of the Chaldeans. On 20 December 1979 he resigned from the office of Archbishop of Baghdad. Since patriarchy lasts until the end of life of the chosen patriarch, ended with the death on 13 April 1989, the Patriarchate.

Cheikho Paul II was a total of over 52 years of priesthood, of which he served as bishop over 41 years, he headed from 1969 to 1989 the Synod of the Chaldean Catholic Church and was from 1976 to 1989, the President of the Episcopal Conference of Catholic Bishops in Iraq.
