Paul J. F. Lusaka

Paul John Firmino Lusaka ( born January 10, 1935 in Moomba Village, Lusaka, † 11 November 1996) was a Zambian diplomat and 1984-1985 President of the UN General Assembly.

Study

The study of history and geography closed Lusaka in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts Rows of University College in Lesotho from. Subsequently, he was from 1960 to 1961 student at the University of Minnesota as part of an exchange program of the Ford Foundation. In 1963 he also acquired a Masters in Political Geography at McGill University in Montreal.

Diplomat

After independence in 1964 Zambia Lusaka diplomat by training at the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations and the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 1964 to 1965 he was first secretary and second acting first secretary in the High Commission in the UK. He then spent three years Deputy High Commissioner in London. From 1968 to 1972, Lusaka ambassador to the Soviet Union and at the same time Ambassador to Yugoslavia and Romania.

Subsequently, he was until 1973 Permanent Representative of Zambia to the United Nations for the first time. He was also High Commissioner in Canada, Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Ambassador to Cuba. The Office of the High Commissioner in Ethiopia he could not compete due to health reasons. From 1989 to 1991 Lusaka was then ambassador to the United States.

Minister

Between 1973 and 1978, Lusaka was a member of the National Assembly of Zambia. In the cabinet of Mainza Chona August 1973 to May 1975 he was Minister for Agricultural Development. Prime Minister Elijah Mudenda called him then as Minister for Energy, Transport and Communications. From July 1977 to June 1978 he was in the second government of Chona finally Minister of Health.

Ascent to the President of the UN General Assembly

From 1979 to 1987 he was again Permanent Representative to the UN and was at this time on 18 September 1984., Succeeding Jorge E. Illueca President of the 39th UN General Assembly On September 18, 1985, he was succeeded in this office by Jaime de Piniés. During his tenure as Permanent Representative he practiced beyond from some other offices in UN bodies.
