Paul Lambert ( born August 7, 1969 in Glasgow ) is a former Scottish football player and current football coach of the English first division club Aston Villa.

Association

Paul Lambert began his football career in 1984 in Scotland at the Linwood Rangers and transferred in 1985 to FC St. Mirren. After eight years at the club he joined in 1993 for FC Motherwell. Here he fell in a UEFA Cup match against Borussia Dortmund at the Dortmund coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, who steered him to Dortmund in 1996. The combative midfielder became a crowd favorite at the Borussia and won this season with the Dortmundern the Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup.

In 1997 he moved to Celtic where he played until 2005 and during this time the Scottish Cup four times, and three times the Scottish FA Cup won. He was voted Scotland's Player of the year 2002. He then made ​​his career with FC Livingston finish.

National

Career as a coach

In the season 2005/ 06 he joined his first professional coaching job at the Scottish first division club FC Livingston. This was followed by engagements with the Wycombe Wanderers and Colchester United.

On 18 August 2009 he became manager of Norwich City. In his debut season he led the Canaries as the winner of the Football League One promotion to the second-rate Football League Championship. In the next season (2010 /11) he scored his - by his own admission - most success with direct walkover as runner-up of Football League Championship to the Premier League.

On 31 May 2012 Lambert offered his resignation from the coach of Norwich City, the club refused him this, however. Two days later, he was introduced as the new coach of the club Aston Villa.

In November 2009, Lambert was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame.
