Paul Leidy

Paul Leidy ( born November 13, 1813 in Hemlock, Columbia County, Pennsylvania, † September 11, 1877 in Danville, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1857 and 1859 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Paul Leidy attended the common schools and then served an apprenticeship in tailoring. He also taught for several years as a teacher in Danville. After a subsequent law degree in 1837 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began to work in Danville in this profession. From 1852 to 1857 he was district attorney in Montour County there. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career.

After the death of Mr John Gallagher Montgomery Leidy was at the due election for the twelfth seat of Pennsylvania as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on December 7, 1857. Since he has not been confirmed in 1858, he could only finish the current term in Congress until March 3, 1859. This was marked by the events leading up to the Civil War.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Paul Leidy again practiced as a lawyer. He died on September 11, 1877 in Danville, where he was also buried.
