Paul-Lincke-Ufer

The road Paul- Lincke-Ufer in Berlin's Kreuzberg district runs north parallel to the Landwehr Canal. At the Paul- Lincke-Ufer there are numerous beer gardens, cafes and restaurants. Between the Legnica and Forster Street, the road is only a foot and cycle path on which a highly frequented in summer boules court was created. In addition, the public and supervised playground Pauli is worth mentioning.

The road is part of a popular residential area as a pleasant living environment prevails on the one side by the green belt to the Landwehr Canal and the beer gardens, on the other hand, by the classification as a simple residential area in the Urban Development Areas rents are relatively cheap.

History of the road

This coastal road began as Kottbusser COMMUNICATION. Circa 1856, a second section was named Kottbusser bank, which just had four plots. Later, additional sections were added on the banks of the developed Landwehr Canal and the road ran " from Görlitz shore to shore Elisabeth ". Now there were already 65 built-up land on the north side of the road, mostly residential houses with some wood and coal places in between (as of 1874). On 7 November 1956 the 90th birthday of Paul Lincke, was renamed in Lincke-Ufer, which the composer Paul Lincke and Berliner honorary citizen was honored. He had all lived near the Orange Street 64. Ten years later, on November 7, 1966, we completed the name of Paul - Lincke-Ufer.

Buildings and features

In the houses 42/43 around 30 bands had in the 1970s, their practice rooms, including dawn and Agitation Free. At the Paul- Lincke-Ufer 20-22, height Hobrechtbrücke, a former substation Bewag is (now Vattenfall ), built by the architect Hans Heinrich Müller and opened in 1929. The monumental listed building was decommissioned in 1989 and completely renovated in the years 1999 to 2001. Today, companies from the new media, a Step Dance Studio, an upscale evening dining, a bar lounge with attached garden as well as a multi-use event area are having a large event hall in the building. The lateral tower brought the building known as the " Cathedral of Electricity " one.

Other houses in the street as number 4, 39/40 and 42/43 are listed monuments.

In a factory floor in the backyard of the house 44a in 1996, the internationally known in the techno scene record store Hard Wax is established.
