Paul Martin (ice hockey)

Paul Martin ( born March 5, 1981 in Minneapolis, Minnesota ) is an American professional ice hockey player who stands in July 2010 with the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

The 1.85 m tall defender first played from 1998 to 2000 Hockey in the Elk River Elks, the high school team in the Elk River High School, in the high school league system of the United States. After completing his high school career Martin won the annual award as Minnesota Mr. Hockey, which honors the best high school player of the U.S. state of Minnesota in the 2000 calendar year. He then spent during his college days three seasons with the team from the University of Minnesota in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, a league in the game operation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association before the Americans at the NHL Entry Draft in 2000 as 62 in the second round of the New Jersey Devils was selected.

With his University of Links Sniper won the 2001 and 2002 the championship of the NCAA Division I and then moved to the New Jersey Devils, who received him immediately in their NHL strain squad. The lockout in the 2004/05 season Martin spent the Swiss first division club Fribourg- Gottéron. With the U.S. National Team Paul Martin took part in the U20 World Youth Championship in 2001, the World Cup of Hockey in 2004 and at the World Championships in 2005 and 2008. He also starred in the cadre of "Team USA" at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. Also for the 2010 Winter Olympics, he was nominated, but had to be a short time later withdrawn from the squad list due to a broken arm.
