Paul McGuigan (filmmaker)

Paul McGuigan ( born September 19, 1963 in Bellshill, Scotland ) is a film director.

Life and work

His debut as a director, he was in 1998 with the literary adaptation The Acid House. Two years later he directed the gangster film Gangster No.. 1 with Malcolm McDowell in the lead role. For this production, McGuigan was nominated in 2001 for the Fassbinder Prize. In 2002, he turned the television film Little Angels, followed by the historical film The Reckoning. In 2004 came with the remake of the French film wistfully love and lie. Here he first worked with actor Josh Hartnett together. This co-operation was repeated two years later, as McGuigan with Lucky Number Slevin turned his second gangster film. In 2009, he staged with push of a science fiction movie, because then he turned back to television. So McGiugan is among others since 2010 involved as a director on the television series Sherlock.
