Paul Morawitz

Paul Oskar Morawitz ( born April 3, 1879 in Saint Petersburg, † July 1, 1936 in Leipzig ) was a German internist and physiologist who was primarily known for his work on blood coagulation.

After his Habilitation in Heidelberg ( 1907), he became in 1909 Head of the Medical University Polyclinic in Freiburg im Breisgau. Professor and Director of the Medical Clinic in Greifswald he was in 1913, in 1921 was a call to Würzburg. In 1926 he became head of the Leipzig Medical Clinic.

Morawitz regarded as the founder of the coagulation theory. His research on the physiology and pathology of the blood brought him international recognition. In his honor, gives the German Society of Cardiology annually the " Paul- Morawitz Prize".
