Career

After graduation Overstreet moved to Nashville, where he got by doing odd jobs and night occurred in small clubs. In 1982 he took a first, not too successful single for RCA. In the same year his song Same on Me was recorded by George Jones and made a top 10 hit. There followed a turbulent phase with plenty of alcohol and drug use. Briefly, he was married to a sister of Dolly Parton. In 1985 he married again, and finally managed to get away from the drugs. The Forester Sisters achieved with one of his songs a number 1 hit. In 1988 he had his first solo success with Sowin 'Love. This was followed by an album of the same name, from which several more singles were released. He had the first number 1 hit as a performer in 1990 with Daddy's Come Around. In 1992 his second album Heroes, which is listed for almost a year in the charts.

The lyrics of his songs have become increasingly religious. Critics also spoke of " gefühlsduseligen " or even " whiny " content. Published in 1999, Overstreet with A Songwriter's Project - Volume I a remarkable CD, in which he presented his own songs, which had previously been interpreted successfully by other self.
