Paul Parin

Paul Parin ( born September 20, 1916 in Polzela, Austria - Hungary, now Slovenia, † 18 May, 2009 Zurich ) was a Swiss psychoanalyst, anthropologist and writer of Slovene descent.

Life

Paul Parin grew up in an upper middle-class, assimilated Jewish family on his father's Country Estate in Slovenia. He studied medicine at the Universities of Graz and Zagreb. Parin 1943 received his doctorate. This was followed up in 1946 trained as a surgeon. During this time worked Parin 1944/45, as a surgeon at the Yugoslav partisans. After Parin closed in Switzerland on training as a neurologist and psychoanalyst. Since 1952, Paul Parin had a private practice as a psychoanalyst in Zurich.

In the years 1955-1971 Paul Parin undertook six expeditions to West Africa. Together with his wife Goldy Parin - Matthey and Fritz Morgenthaler, he developed the art ethnopsychoanalysis: Since the mid- 1960s, researchers authors with the successful attempt were internationally known, apply the methods of psychoanalysis in anthropology. With the psychoanalytically primed field research study entitled The whites think too much (1963 ), they demonstrated that psychoanalysis developed in Europe and North America and applied suitable also for working with members of other origin.

From 1972 to 1979, Paul Parin psychotherapeutic staff at the Psychiatric University Hospital in Zurich. He is one of the prominent representatives of a - in the sense of radical Enlightenment - politically engaged psychoanalysis. The memories of his expeditions he held in several books; this came in his last lifetime, a number of short story collections.
