Paul-Pierre Philippe

Paul -Pierre Cardinal Philippe OP ( born April 16, 1905 in Paris, France, † 9 April 1984 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Paul -Pierre Philippe joined after leaving school in 1926 he entered the Dominican Order and studied in various formation houses of the Order of the subjects Catholic theology and philosophy. He received on 6 July 1932, the sacrament of Holy Orders and, after further studies from 1935 to 1939 as a lecturer in the Formation of Priests in Polish Lwow, and in Rome. During World War II he served as an officer in the French army. From 1942 to 1950 he worked as professor of theology in France and Italy. In 1950 he founded an institute for spirituality to deepen the spiritual life of seminar leaders and novice masters. In 1953, he founded a similar institution for women, which he headed until 1957 as a director. From 1951 to 1956 he attended as Apostolic Visitor of numerous religious communities, from 1955 to 1959 he was Commissioner of the Holy Office.

1959 he was appointed by Pope John XXIII. Secretary of the Congregation for the people consecrated life, in 1962 he appointed him Titular Archbishop of Herakleopolis Magna and donated to him on 21 September 1962, the episcopal ordination. Paul -Pierre Philippe took part in the years 1962-1965 at the Second Vatican Council. Pope Paul VI. appointed him in 1967 as secretary of the CDF, and took him on March 5, 1973 as a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia San Pio V a Villa Carpegna in the College of Cardinals to. From 1973 to 1980 led Paul -Pierre Philippe as Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, and on 10 November 1978 he was appointed Cardinal Patronus of the Order of Malta. In 1983 he was charged while maintaining its title Diakonia cardinal priest per hac vice.

Paul -Pierre Philippe died on 9 April 1984 in Rome and was buried in the local cemetery " Campo Verano ".
