Paul Schoenfield

Paul Schoenfield ( b. 1947 in Detroit ) is an American composer and pianist of Jewish origin.

Life

Schoenfield began at the age of six years playing the piano and a year later he made his first composition. He completed his high school studies at the Carnegie - Mellon University and received his doctorate from the University of Arizona as a doctor of music.

In his music he uses different elements of style: he combines the traditional classical music with folk elements, which are particularly inspired by klezmer, to a new unit. He continues the tradition of American composers, ranging from George Gershwin, whose prominent feature has always been resorting to popular elements (of whatever kind they may be, in the specific case ). In his previous work of chamber music and solo concerts take the most space; exist alongside piano and choral works, an opera and an oratorio. Its by far the best-known work is the " Cafe Music " for violin, cello and piano, with its distinctive rhythms and their powerful melodies.

Paul Schoenfield has long been active nationally and internationally as a pianist, but now occurs only rarely publicly. Among others there with him and Sergiu Luca, a recording of the complete works for violin and piano by Béla Bartók.

Paul Schoenfield is well versed in addition to his musical activities to the areas of mathematics and in Hebrew.

He now lives in the United States and Israel.
