Paul Siefert

Paul Siefert (also: Sibert, Sivert, Syfert or Syfertius Paul, baptized June 28, 1586 in Gdansk, † May 6, 1666 ) was an organist and composer of the North German organ school.

Life

Thanks to a grant from the Gdańsk City Council Siefert was probably towards the end of 1607 to 1610 a study visit to Amsterdam, where he was a pupil of Sweelinck. After his return he became deputy organist in Gdansk. From 1611 to 1616 he was organist first at the Altstädtischer Church in Königsberg, then organist at the Warsaw court orchestra of Sigismund III. of Poland. On September 23, 1623, he was appointed as the successor to Michael Weyda organist at St. Mary's Church Gdansk, where he remained until his death.

Siefert tried against his adversary to assert the Warsaw conductor Marco Scacchi. Both composers published several collections of music in the dispute.

A critical edition of the music keys Paul Sieferts provides Matthias Schneider, a critical edition of the complete organ works was Klaus Beckmann out.
