Paul Sorvino

Paul Sorvino ( born April 13, 1939 New York City ) is an American actor of Italian descent.

Life

Sorvino was born in Brooklyn and grew up there as well.

He studied at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York and made his debut in 1964 in the musical Bajour. His first film role came in 1970 in the movie, Where's Daddy?. In 1973 he was nominated for his role in the play That Championship Season for a Tony Award. In 1976, Sorvino received along with Karl Malden and Michael Douglas, the leading minor role in the episode Super star of the series The Streets of San Francisco, in which he played the irascible New York City Police Sergeant Bert D' Angelo, who track down a criminal to San Francisco had followed. However, the broadcast the following year spin-off Superstar was a flop and was canceled after only one season.

Sorvino played in the film Cruising ( 1980) with Al Pacino and Karen Allen. In 1990 he took over he one of his most famous roles, that of the high-ranking Mafia member Paul Cicero (based on Paul Vario) in Martin Scorsese's classic film Goodfellas - Three decades in the Mafia. After this role Sorvino was later used again and again as Mafia gangsters, so in Rocketeer, The company or Bulletproof Gangster. Other important roles he took on in the film Nixon ( 1995), opposite Anthony Hopkins in the film American and Perfect ( 1997) alongside Amanda Plummer. He also appeared in several television series such as We'll Get By, Bert D' Angelo / Superstar and Law & Order.

Sorvino was married twice: By 1988, with Lorraine Davis and from 1991 to 1996 Vanessa Arico. He has three children, including actress Mira Sorvino ( b. 1967 ).
