Paul Tholey

Paul Tholey ( born March 14, 1937 in St. Wendel, † December 7, 1998 in Bad Vilbel ) was a German psychologist.

Life

Tholey was a student of Edwin noise and taught first at the University of Frankfurt in the subjects of General Psychology, Statistics and Methodology, and later as a professor of sports psychology at the Technical University of Braunschweig. He researched - including Stephen LaBerge - in the field of lucid dreams and has published numerous books and articles on the subject. One of the best known is entitled Creatively dreams. According to his own statements, he coined in 1977 the term lucid dream based on the English term lucid dream by Frederik van Eeden.

The scientific basis of the work of Paul Tholey in the field of lucid dream research, sport psychology and consciousness research was the Gestalt theory and Gestalt psychology. Tholey was a member of the board of the Society for Gestalt Theory and its Applications, and was co-editor of the international multidisciplinary journal shape Theory. The magazine was founded by him in 1989 His awareness that should be devoted to the lucid dream and consciousness research, however, only appeared in one book.

In the field of sports psychology, he was heavily influenced by Kurt Kohl, whose shape theory of sensorimotor and the sport he continued and deepened. Paul Tholey used lucid dreams systematically to learn complex movement sequences.
