Paul Verdzekov

Paul Verdzekov ( born January 22, 1931 in Shisong, Cameroon, † 26 January, 2010 Ntasen, Cameroon ) was Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Bamenda in Cameroon.

Life

Paul Verdzekov attended the minor seminary in Sasse and was from 1945 to 1947 teachers in preparatory service at St. Joseph Junior Primary School Djottin, which then belonged to the parish Shisong. In 1947 he worked at the Sacred Heart Boys School Shisong and at the Sacred Heart Boys School Shisong. From 1948 to 1950 he attended the Elementary Teacher 's Training Centre in Njinikom and was then a teacher at the Catholic school in Bambui, from 1952 to 1954 at the Holy Family Minor Seminary in Sasse. He learned Bernard Fonlon know, instead of inspired him to a teaching profession for the priesthood.

In 1954 he entered the seminary in Enugu Bigard Memorial Seminary. VonB 1958 to 1962 he studied at the Roman Pontifical Urban College. Paul Verdzekov received on 20 December 1961, the priesthood and completed a Licentiate in Social Sciences at the Pontifical Gregorian University. In 1965 he returned to Cameroon and was active in pastoral ministry. From 1967 to 1969 he completed his doctoral studies at the Gregorian University in Rome.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him in 1970 the first bishop of the newly established Diocese of Bamenda. He received his episcopal consecration on November 8, 1970, the Bishop of Buéa, Willem Peeters MHM; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Garoua, Yves -Joseph -Marie Plumey OMI, and the Bishop of Sangmélima, Pierre- Célestin Nkou.

With elevation of the diocese of Bamenda to an archbishopric was made in 1982 by Pope John Paul II appointed Archbishop of Bamenda. He was also Apostolic Administrator in Kumbo.

He has held numerous positions in the African Synod of Bishops. He became a member of the Preparatory Committee of the Special Representative for Africa of the Synod of Bishops, where he served as Chairman of the Subcommittee for the proclamation of 1989; In 1994 he was chairman of the Commission for the Synod Assembly.

His age-related resignation was founded in 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI. granted.
