Paul Vixie

Paul Vixie is the author of several RFCs and well known UNIX system programs, such as SENDS proxynet, and Vixie cron rtty.

Life

He attended George Washington High School in San Francisco, California. As an employee of DEC began in 1988 work on BIND, and was the main author of the version 8 (1997).

He left DEC in 1994 and founded together with Rick Adams and Carl Malamud, the non-profit company Internet Software Consortium ( ISC) to advance the development of BIND and develop more software for the Internet. In 2004 the company was renamed to Internet Systems Consortium.

In 1995 he founded together with other Palo Alto Internet Exchange ( PAIX ), which was acquired by Metromedia Fiber Network ( MFN) 1999. He was Chief Technology Officer of MFN and finally President of PAIX.

In 1998 he founded with others the Californian non-profit organization Mail Abuse Prevention System ( MAPS), whose aim is to stop e- mail spam. Alongside he also operates his own consultancy Vixie Enterprises.

He wrote with Frederick Avolio the well-known in the art book Sendmail: Theory and Practice. Paul Vixie also holds the record for " most CERT advisories due to a single author ."

Paul Vixie supported the Open Root Server Network with the operation of the L- Server from September 2005 until the shutdown in late 2008.
