Paul Wernle

Paul Wernle ( born May 1, 1872 in Hottingen, Zurich today, † April 12, 1939 in Basel) was a Swiss Protestant theologian with an emphasis on New Testament and church history.

Life and work

During his studies in Göttingen Wernle 1894 Member of Schwarzburg covenant connection fraternity Germania. In 1900 he was extraordinary, in 1905 ordinary professor at the University of Basel. He taught more recent church history, history of dogma and history of the Protestant concept of teaching as well as more New Testament as a minor subject. He was professor emeritus of illness at the end of the winter semester 1927/1928.
