Paul Winfield

Paul Winfield ( May 22nd, 1939 in Los Angeles, California, † March 7, 2004 ) was an American television and film actor.

Paul Winfield visited various universities such as UCLA, Stanford University and the University of Hawaii. After several stage performances Winfield played from 1965 minor roles in numerous television series. In 1969, he starred in the drama There is no way back a smaller role alongside lead actor Sidney Poitier. In Brother John - The man from nowhere, he played again with Poitier.

For his portrayal of Nathan Lee Morgan in the drama The year without a father ( Sounder ) 1972 Winfield was nominated for an Oscar as Best Actor.

Winfield, who still turned in addition to his work as a film actor for television, was nominated three times for an Emmy and won the trophy in 1995 for his guest appearance as Judge Harold Nance in the television series Picket Fences.

Private Winfield was 30 years with his partner, architect Charles Gillan, Jr., who died on 5 March 2002 from bone cancer, together.

Winfield fought long against obesity and diabetes. He died of a heart attack at the age of 64 years, at Queen of Angels - Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles. Winfield and Gillan are interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
