Paula (novel)

Paula is a 1994 published, autobiographical novel of the Chilean writer Isabel Allende.

The eponymous young woman, Paula ( the daughter of Isabel Allende ) is due to their metabolic disorder porphyria fallen into a coma. Her mother (ie Allende ) is hoping that she wakes up and takes several attempts to improve their condition. She tells her sick daughter the story of her family from the arrival in Chile at the beginning of the century to the present: " Listen to me, Paula, I'll tell you a story so that you know when are you awake, not even lost that. " the reader is given at the same time a portrait of the history of Chile. At the end of the daughter dies despite the efforts of the mother. The last chapter deals with the attempt to come to terms with the loss.

Overall, the book is an approximation to the dying and the intense engagement with it, a loved one die, dwindle to see.
