Paulien van Deutekom

Paulien van Deutekom ( born February 4, 1981 in The Hague) is a Dutch all-round speed skater.

Paulien van Deutekom debuted in November 2005 in the World Cup. Their best finish was a third place so far over 500 m in January 2006. Likewise must the sixth place in the overall World Cup over the 1500 - meter course be considered as a great success in its first season. At the Olympic Winter Games 2006 in Turin, she started on the 1500 m and took a 13th place. In the all-around Europe Championship 2008 she won behind her teammate Ireen Wüst the silver medal in the Sprint World Championships 2008 in Heerenveen, she was twelfth. At the 2007 Single Distances Championships she won a silver medal in the relay and was fifth at 1500 m and 3000 m, she finished in sixth.

2008 van Deutekom was surprising world champion in speed skating all-around and thus achieved its best result in her young career. In single- Distance World Championships in Nagano van Deutekom won three medals in the team race with Renate Groenewold and Ireen Wüst the gold medal and more than 1500 m and 3000 m silver medal. Over 1000 m, it reached number five, over 5000 m they finished sixth.
