Pauline Betz

Pauline Betz Addie ( born August 6, 1919 in Dayton, Ohio as Pauline Betz, † May 31, 2011 in Potomac, Maryland) was an American tennis player.

Career

Up to the age of fifteen she had no tennis lessons. As a student, she still won the 1942 American tennis championships at Forest Hills and was able to defend that title in 1943 and 1944. In 1946, she was able to triumph in both Wimbledon and Forest Hills. At the Western & Southern Open 1943 Betz succeeded in the final against Catherine Wolf ( 6-0, 6-2 ) a Golden Set. They scored a total of 18 winning shots.

After their success in the amateurs Betz moved to the pros and toured for several years, among others, Jack Kramer and Ricardo Gonzalez.

After her career end, she founded a tennis camp for children. In 1965, the induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Betz was in 1949 with the sports journalist Bob Addie (1910 - 1982) married. The couple had five children, one of whom is the novelist Kim Addonizio.
