Paulo da Gama

Paulo da Gama (* um 1465 in Olivença, † June or July 1499 in Angra do Heroismo ) was a Portuguese explorer, son of Estêvão da Gama and the older brother of Vasco.

He participated on the first voyage from Europe to India, which was led by his brother. He ordered the ship São Rafael, which sank later on the return trip. The diseased Paulo da Gama moved to the flagship São Gabriel. But a day after the ship reached the Azores, he died.
