Paulo Lins

Paulo Lins (born 1958 in Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian writer.

In 1997 he published his work Cidade de Deus ( " City of God "). The book was made ​​into a film by Fernando Meirelles as City of God in 2002.

The novel, The City of God describes the development of the same favela in Rio de Janeiro, which was built in the 60s as a social settlement and more and more became a slum. Lins moved his material both from his own childhood - he grew up in the Cidade de Deus - as well as from a scientific paper about favelas.
