Paulus Johannes Maria Maas

Paul Maas ( born February 27, 1939 in Arnhem ), actually Paul Johannes Maria Maas, is a Dutch botanist. His research interests are mykoheterotrophe plant, ginger plants, as well Annonengewächse. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Maas ".

Life

Maas originally wanted to study chemistry, but then studied from 1957 to 1964 Biology at the University of Utrecht. He then undertook to 1986 extensive research trips through the Neotropics. In 1973 for his "Revision of the New World Costoideae " the doctorate he was awarded. Maas was employed since 1965 at the Institute of Systematic Botany, Utrecht, since 1974, he was curator there for flowering plants Nationaal Herbarium Nederland of today.

Maas often worked closely with his wife Hiltje Maas -van de Kamer together since 1982 temporarily with Traudel Rübsamen. For the flora Neotropica he wrote from 1972 to 1986 five volumes about ginger family, Burmanniaceae, Triuridaceae and Gentianaceae, as he wrote books for many other floras.

Maas has over 10,000 plants collected and described more than 250 new taxa.
