Pave Penny

The AN/AAS-35V Pave Penny system is a produced by the American defense contractor Lockheed -Martin laser sensor. The system was installed in aircraft like the Fairchild -Republic A-10 and Vought A-7 and is used to display laser reflections in the HUD of the pilot.

Pave Penny works passively, so can not produce a laser beam itself. But it is possible to use a coded laser pulses in the received 4 -digit code for the unique identification of targets. Thus it can be, for example, prevents multiple pilots attack the same target.

Pave Penny is now considered obsolete and replaced by advanced systems.
