Pavel Chesnokov

Pavel Grigoryevich Chesnokov (Russian Павел Григорьевич Чесноков, scientific transliteration Pavel Grigor'evič Cesnokov; * 12 Oktoberjul / October 24 1877greg in Ivanovskoe near Zvenigorod, .. † March 14, 1944 in Moscow) was a Russian composer and choirmaster. He composed over five hundred choral works, including around four hundred spiritual. Today, he is (or has become famous in the U.S. as Salvation is Created ) especially for his play Spaseniye sodelal known.

Chesnokov was already singing with the age of five in the choir of his father and entered the Moscow Synodalschule seven years. During his school time he was taught by university teachers as Stepan Smolensky, Sergey Taneyev and Mikhail Ippolitov -Ivanov and gained experience as a choral conductor. From 1913 Chesnokov then studied piano, violin and composition at the Moscow State Conservatory free. He made a name for himself as a choral conductor of the Russian Choral Society and lectured himself later choral conducting at the conservatory. By 1917, Chesnokov had about four hundred sacred choral works composed with the prohibition spiritual art creation after the October Revolution, he wrote from now about a hundred secular choral works which he performed with choirs like the Moscow Academy Choir and the Choir of the Bolshoi Theatre.

As of 1931, the Christ the Savior Cathedral ( whose last chorus, he was in charge ) was demolished, presented Chesnokov his work as a composer and focused on his professorship at the conservatory. He died in 1944 at the age of 66 years.
