Paxmal

Karl Bickel ( born February 13, 1886 in Zurich - Hirslanden; † November 6, 1982 in whales city) was a Swiss artist and graphic designer.

Bickel created among other things the Paxmal, a monumental Peace Monument, in Walenstadtberg.

Life

Bickel grew up fatherless; his father died in 1890. From the age of 14 to 1904, he served an apprenticeship as a lithographer and Clichéezeichner in the renowned studio of Paul Bleuer. Later he moved into the graphic Institution Huettner and there rose to the technical manager.

In 1908 he opened his own graphic design studio and put letterheads, business cards and fashion catalogs recommendation ago. Four years later he left his company. 1913 Bickel ill with tuberculosis and had for 13 months the waters in Walenstadtberg.

In 1924 he began the construction of the Paxmals 738925 / 22285047.1420359.270245 on Schrina - Hochrugg above whales city and met his future wife, St. Gallen, Berta Albrecht. 1927 his son Charles was born. The Paxmal was completed in 1949.

Bickel died 1982 Schrina - Hochrugg.

Museum

The museum Bickel in whales city has been donated by the Karl Bickel Foundation and provides among other images and stamps Bickel. Selected stamps are also issued at the Kantonsspital of whales city.
