Paykan

Paykan (Persian: پيکان ) is the name for a very common in Iran car model, the most famous product from the house of Iran National (now Iran Khodro Industrial Group ). Paykan is modeled on the Persian word Peykan (arrow).

This is a full size car, which is technically based on the English model Hillman Hunter from 1966. The production in Iran in 1967 included, first of all supplied parts that were as "complete knock down " (CKD ) completely disassembled for assembly in Iran supplied. Mid-70s began - except for the motor - full production in Iran. After the Hillman successor Chrysler production ceased in England in 1979 and the rights of the design sold to Iran, the Paykan was a purely Iranian vehicle. There, the car was produced until 2005.

The four-door model is still widely used as a taxi, its original price was around 6000 euros. In addition, there were more body styles and models, a pickup truck and the so-called " Jugendpaykan " with a weaker engine.

The Paykan was not only an immediate success, he brought his owner when selling as a used more one, when he had tasted as a new vehicle. For one, the price increase was due to the rising inflation in Iran. On the other hand it was also because of that demand exceeded production by far. Next was provided at the start of production in 1967, an annual production of 7,000 vehicles in 1978 136,000 vehicles were produced per year. The production ran in three shifts, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Paykan pickup is still being produced in the city of Tabriz.
