Payload (computing)

As a payload ( payload English ) is called in communication technology those transported during a communication between two partners data of a data packet that do not contain control or protocol information. User data include voice, text, characters, images and sounds.

In nested protocols ( protocol stack ) the name of user data depends on the considered protocol: the user data to be extended to implement the protocol to the protocol-specific information necessary header. The data obtained are passed to the underlying protocol layer - and ask from the perspective of this Protocol, in turn dar. payload

The payload data following the header ( header) in general. Depending on the network protocol may be followed by a trailer ( trailer ).
