The Paznaun, rare Paznauntal, is a Talung in the far west of North Tyrol, Austria, and includes the valley of the Trisanna and its side valleys.

Geography

The Paznaun lies in the west of Tyrol. It starts in Pians to Landeck, at the confluence of Trisanna with Rosanna for Sanna, and is a tributary of the punch Valley. The valley extends in a southwesterly direction with a length of nearly 40 km to the Bielerhoehe, the last uninhabited valley portion is called the Kleinvermunt. There, it borders on the province of Vorarlberg, and on the south by Switzerland.

The V-shaped mountain valley is surrounded to the north by the Verwallgruppe and in the south of the Samnaun Group and the Silvretta. The highest mountain is 3399 m above sea level. A. the flight horn. The sunny slopes are relatively densely populated with individual farms and Rotten while ranging on the shady side of the forest mostly to the valley floor.

Climate

The Paznaun has a typical central air alpine valleys, which is rough due to the altitude, but sunshine rich and has lower rainfall than the northern or southern Alpine storage locations. Only in exceptional cases, such as the avalanche disaster in February 1999, heavy snowfall can overcome the natural barriers of Verwall and Silvretta.

Name

As with the other Talungen the area they say in general only, Tyrol ' to the valley, the name, Paznauntal ', which is located approximately in the Austrian map, is rare, and at best serves to distinguish the small hamlet Paznaun.

History

Through the Alps 2005 flood Paznaun was cut from 23 August until the evening of August 26, 2005 by the rest of the Tyrol and is only accessible via the Silvretta Vorarlberg on toll road. Due to a rockslide in the Gfällbrücke at Tobadill an alternative route was (tunnel ) constructed and thus secured the access to Paznaun in no time.

Economy and infrastructure

Tourism

The main occupation of the inhabitants is tourism, the radical by a building boom changed the landscape in recent decades. From a mountain large rural valley especially Ischgl has been a center of international mass tourism.

Traffic

The Paznauntalstraße (B 188, former Silvretta road ) runs through the entire valley, which connects not passable in the winter section of the Silvretta High Alpine Road ( private road ) Paznaun with the Montafon in Vorarlberg. From Wirl (village of Galtür ) to the Silvretta Silvretta High Alpine Road is a toll road. From Wirl the road leads to the Zeinisjoch.

At the Bielerhoehe, the highest point of the Silvretta High Alpine Road, is the Silvretta reservoir.

Policy

The four municipalities are served in several community organizations:

  • The community association Paznaun was founded to distribute the proceeds from the Talschilling to pay the Vorarlberg Illwerke AG for the use Paznauner water rights.
  • Of 2006 resulting community association Regio Paznaun has the organization and funding of public transport in Paznaun to the task.
  • The Planning Association Paznauntal is one of the 37 planning associations Tyrol (No. 7, No 87 /2005)

As a tourism region is called the valley Paznaun- Ischgl.
