The Lukoil Akademik ( Bulgarian Лукойл Академик, English Lukoil Academic) is a professional basketball club from Sofia Bulgarian. The first men's team is 23 -times Bulgarian champions and regular participant in various European club competitions.

History

The basketball department of the student clubs " Akademik " from Sofia was founded in 1947. Ten years later, the club was the first time the Bulgarian master. In the season 1957/58 Akademik took part in the first European Champions Cup. The team came into the finals of the tournament. This success was repeated in 1959. However, both finals were lost to the then time winner ASK Riga. In subsequent years, international Akademik could produce no great success. National they won again the championships and cup. After the entrance of the Russian oil company Lukoil you took in 2000 the sponsors name in the club name on. Since entering the national dominance increased and led to 10 championships in a row. This Akademik went up to the Bulgarian record holder. In the new millennium Akademik regularly takes part in the ULEB Eurocup or on the Euro Challenge.
