PC/104

PC/104 is a standard of the electronics industry for PC-compatible modules that can be plugged together form a complex computing system.

The first version was published in 1992 by the PC/104 consortium. In this standard, both the module size, the location of possible expansion ports and the importance of the pins of the ISA -compatible PC/104-Steckers is fixed. The modules with a board size of 90.17 mm x 95.89 mm can be inserted directly above the other, so that it can be dispensed with a backplane ( backplane).

The name is derived from the model developed by IBM system "personal computer" (PC) and the number of connection pins (104) of the modular plug.

With the availability of more efficient components, the extension of the PC/104-Systems has become necessary with a faster bus. The PC/104 is supplemented with the PCI bus and developed, it was called PC/104-Plus.

2006, the global sales of PC/104 was still at $ 80.1 million compared to $ 22.5 million with PC/104-Plus-Modulen.
