PDF/VT

PDF / VT is an international standard, which in August 2010 by ISO as ISO 16612-2. was published. He defines the use of PDF as a for the variable data printing ( VDP as often - for Variable Data Printing - abbreviated ) and for the transaction printing optimized exchange format. Building on PDF/X-4 is the first VDP format that allows a modern ICC - based color management via the use of ICC -output intents. PDF / VT adds the idea of encapsulated groups of graphical objects, to support efficient processing of recurring content (text, graphic or image). With the introduction of the Document Part Metadata Framework ( DPM) standard allows a reliable and dynamic page management for print data from the high-volume transaction printing ( in English often than HVTO for High Volume Transactional Output for short), such as metadata -based selection of database entries or postage optimization.

While PDF/VT-1 always consists of a body independent of external resources or external page content file support other versions of the standards, the use of external graphical content ( PDF/VT-2 ) as well as streaming using multipart MIME packages (PDF / VT - 2s). Such a file is not just a digital template for the VDP, the user can with a standard PDF reader, distribute, browse and look, even if an accurate Representing requires a PDF viewer program that PDF/X-4 or PDF/X-5- or PDF / VT compliant.

While several vendors have announced in 2010 the support of PDF / VT, the first tools and solutions for PDF / VT will be published only in the course of 2011. Drupa in May 2012 will probably be the first show for the industry to which a significant number of PDF / VT solutions will be presented.

The ubiquity of PDF and the fact that PDF itself is now an ISO standard (ISO 32000-1:2008 ), clearly working for PDF / VT. It is currently difficult to predict, will find the areas in which the printing industry PDF / VT distribution, and the importance of the standard will achieve in comparison to other formats and procedures for variable data printing.
